On this day in 1953, the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II took place in Westminster Abbey. The first such ceremony to be televised, it gave her subjects the rare opportunity to see their new monarch resplendent in the robes and jewels of state — including the impressive Coronation Necklace and Earrings.

Two-piece cream silk gown comprising boned bodice, skirt and bertha.⠀ Designed by Charles-Frederick Worth, this ivory silk satin evening dress features gigot sleeves and delicate pale pink silk chiffon accents. The skirt is a masterpiece, with sunbeam and cloud patterns of pink silk tulle and bead embroidery. Timeless beauty in every stitch.⠀
