Style & Splendour: The Wardrobe of Queen Maud of Norway 1896-1938 – Anne Kjellberg & Susan North This beautiful book was created to accompany the exhibition of Queen Maud’s extensive wardrobe at the V&A Museum back in 2005. It has many full page colour photographs and details of Queen Maud’s exquisite wardrobe over a 44 year period. This can be an expensive purchase if you try somewhere like Amazon. I would recommend searching for a second hand copy – I managed to get one online from Oxfam for £20.

Inside the Royal Wardrobe: A Dress History of Queen Alexandra – Kate Strasdin This book explores how Queen Alexandra used fashion to shape her public image, and reveals an astute woman who understood the power of clothing. Through detailed analysis of surviving garments—including her wedding dress, coronation gown, and later mourning attire—it offers unique insights into the role of dress in royal life, and delves into the practicalities of managing a royal wardrobe; from the role of dressers, to the royal laundry, and also the complexities of a royal wardrobe ‘on the move’. A thoroughly interesting read for those interested in dress history or royal fashion.
